04 / Recent homes
Flatrock and Bisley, both in Louisville and both shown at HomeARAMA 2025.
2-story residence with finished basement
A thoughtfully designed custom home that celebrates open-plan living and spatial continuity. At its heart, a mono stringer floating staircase with solid walnut treads anchors the two-story great room, and an 8’x8’ sliding glass door connects it to the outdoor living area. An exposed structural steel beam gives the open plan definition, and the kitchen is a complete chef’s kitchen.
2-story residence with finished basement
A transitional custom home that blends traditional character with contemporary openness. A fireplace rises the full height of the two-story great room, a window at the stair landing draws light into the vertical core of the home, and the finished basement features two exposed structural beams.
05 / Our process
At our firm, we take a structured and client-focused approach to custom home design and construction. From the first meeting to the final handoff, every step is tailored to your vision and lifestyle.
We begin with a deep dive into your goals, preferences and inspirations, then create initial sketches and spatial layouts that frame your vision.
We refine the layout and form of your home, exploring styles, massing and spatial relationships to reach a clear, cohesive direction.
We refine details, select materials and incorporate engineering systems, drawing on our experience with material availability and market volatility to minimize delays.
Floor plans, elevations, sections, schedules and specifications form the detailed roadmap for construction.
Plans are prepared and submitted for permits, and competitive bidding begins with our trusted trade partners. We use this phase to establish timelines and lock in material lead times.
Once permits are approved and bids are received, your dedicated project manager coordinates the build from site prep to final finishes.
We guide you through selecting appliances, cabinets, tile, flooring, fixtures and lighting.
Scheduled walkthroughs at framing, mechanical rough-ins and trim let you experience progress first-hand.
A detailed final walkthrough and full home orientation, so you step into your new home with confidence.
By entrusting us with your project, you can focus on envisioning your home while we bring it to life.

06 / Questions
In design-build, one firm takes responsibility for both the design and the construction of a home under a single agreement. The traditional alternative is to hire a designer and a builder under separate agreements. Source: Design-Build Institute of America. Cross Valley Homes is a Design + Build firm specializing in custom homes.
Four phases: conceptual design (your goals, preferences and inspirations, with initial sketches and spatial layouts), schematic design (the layout and form of the home, styles, massing and spatial relationships), design development (details, materials and engineering systems) and construction documentation (floor plans, elevations, sections, schedules and specifications).
Yes. Our interiors team designs and finishes the interior: kitchens, baths, cabinetry, tile, flooring, fixtures and lighting. The exterior is part of the design of your home too: its form and massing, the brick, stone and roofing, the windows and doors, and the entry.
Our process has nine steps in two phases. Design: conceptual design, schematic design, design development and construction documentation. Construction: pre-construction, breaking ground, selections and sourcing, construction walkthroughs, and a final walkthrough and orientation. See the full outline above.
Nationally, custom homes built by a hired contractor and completed in 2025 took about 11.7 months from permit to completion, according to NAHB analysis of Census data. That excludes design time and varies with size and site. We establish your timeline during pre-construction. Source: NAHB Eye on Housing, September 2026

Site conditions matter. The Kentucky Geological Survey notes karst geology in the eastern and central parts of Jefferson County, where septic systems must be carefully installed. Work in a regulatory floodplain needs both a Kentucky Division of Water permit and an MSD floodplain permit. These are general notes; requirements depend on your specific lot.
